Programs

Brewster VFW Post 672 participates in a number of scholarship competitions, recognition awards and community outreach programs.  A few are listed below:

Patriots Pen & Voice of Democracy
Patriots Pen is a written essay contest for grades 6 - 8.  Voice of Democracy is an audio essay context for grades 9 - 12.  Each year a different topic is chosen by the VFW for each program.  Winners at the local post level are presented with a check and a commemorative plaque, and their essay is submitted to the next higher round of judging.  Submission due date is November 1st of each year.

Teacher of the Year
The VFW annually recognizes the nation’s top classroom elementary, junior high and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics—at least half of the school day in a classroom environment—and promote America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively.

Scout of the Year
Each year, the VFW selects three young people — of the Boy or Girl Scouts, Sea Scouts or Venturing Crew — who have demonstrated practical citizenship in school, scouting and the community.
